Elaine Primary School

Sports Premium

At Elaine Primary School, we believe that high-quality Physical Education (PE), active play, and competitive sport are essential catalysts for academic focus, personal development, and social equity. In alignment with our school values of Excellence, Love, Aspiration, Individuality, Nurture, and Engagement, our PE curriculum is designed to equip every child with the physical, social, and cognitive literacy needed to lead healthy, active lives and develop lifelong positive habits.

Our commitment extends beyond sports participation; we aim to foster strong character, build emotional self-regulation, and cultivate confident community leaders. By ensuring equitable and inclusive access to a wide range of physical activities, we proactively remove barriers to participation so that all pupils—especially our disadvantaged cohort and those with SEND—can discover their unique talents, build resilience, and thrive.

Our Strategic Intent for PE and Sport

Our physical education offer is structured to support children's holistic development across three core pillars:

  • Physical Literacy: Developing fundamental movement, stability, and manipulation skills from the early years through to Key Stage 2 to build physical strength, coordination, and confidence.
  • Social & Emotional Literacy: Using team games and active play as powerful vehicles to teach cooperation, respect, sportsmanship, and the ability to navigate challenges and setbacks constructively.
  • Cognitive & Health Literacy: Embedding a deep, practical understanding of physical and mental wellbeing, nutrition, and healthy choices to lay the foundations for lifelong healthy habits.

Removing Barriers:

We utilise our PE and Sports Premium funding strategically to make our physical education and competitive sports offer genuinely inclusive and high-impact. Key initiatives funded by this grant include:

  • The Sports Giants Partnership: We work in close collaboration with Sports Giants to deliver an extensive range of after-school sports clubs, expert coaching, and staff professional development. This partnership ensures that our teachers and support staff receive continuous, high-quality training to deliver outstanding, adaptive PE lessons.
  • Subsidised Transport & Competitive Sport: We actively fund transport and competition entries to ensure that all children, including our 51% disadvantaged cohort and those with SEND, have equal opportunities to represent the school in competitive tournaments across Medway, building cultural capital and expanding their horizons.
  • Active Playtimes & Playground Leadership: To promote active, healthy lifestyles throughout the school day, we have invested in structured playground equipment. This is supported by our trained Playground Leaders, who take active responsibility for organising inclusive, collaborative games at breaktimes, fostering a self-sustaining culture of positive play and pupil-led coaching.
